Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: The Charts, Videos, Pop,
Although she might be so seven seasons ago, Kelly Clarkson is giving the contestants of American Idol 8 something to look up to.
The show’s first-ever winner has just broken a Billboard record recently set by Britney Spears. Clarkson’s new single, “My Life Would Suck Without You,” has just made the biggest leap ever to #1 in the Hot 100’s 50-year history. Tomorrow, the song will have officially jumped from #97 to #1 in just one week of release. (Britney’s “Womanizer” only moved from #96 to #1.)

JC Chasez Dashes Lance’s Hopes for an ‘N Sync Reunion
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Reunions, Pop,
Although he has seen recent fame on Dancing with the Stars, written a New York Times best seller and almost made it into space, Lance Bass can’t seem to shake his glory days.
In countless interviews, the former ‘N Sync member has made it quite clear that he would be open working again with his old mates. He’s also made himself look kinda desperate in the process. Last November, Bass shared his reunion hopes with MTV. “There’s always a possibility for a tour or reunion. It’s something that we really haven’t discussed yet. But it’s something I would love to talk about. I think it’s maybe needed in the next year or so, and I think our fans would love it, ‘cause we never got to say goodbye.”
Lance then basically repeated himself in a recent chat with Billboard. “You never know what the other guys are going to be able to do or what they’re thinking, but I hope in the next few years we would definitely be able to do another tour and another album.”

New Kids on the Block Hits the Cruise Ships
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Concerts / Tours, Pop,
Are you one of the few who can afford a vacation this year? If so, maybe a trip on the high seas with NKOTB is in your future.
Although they’re still in the middle of their concert tour, the five members of New Kids on the Block - Joey McIntyre, Donnie Wahlberg, Danny Wood, Jonathan Knight and Jordan Knight - are planning to bring their act to a cruise ship later this year. (I can hear Simon Cowell laughing now.)
Those who have May 15-18 currently free on their calendars can board the ship traveling between Fort Lauderdale, FL and the Bahamas. According to the band’s website, passengers can expect “live shows, meet/greets, photo ops, memorabilia and more.”
Tickets for the journey went on sale today. For more information, you can click here.

This Sunday’s kickoff to Inauguration Week will look like a night at the Grammys. The January 18 ceremony - titled “We Are One: The Obama Inaugural Celebration at the Lincoln Memorial” - boasts a lineup that most people would have to pay big bucks for. No Suckiness Here: Kelly Clarkson Offers Preview of New Single
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Upcoming Releases, Pop,
Kelly Clarkson’s “My Life Would Suck Without You,” the first single on her upcoming album, can now be previewed through Amazon.com. Upon hearing the track, it’s possible to forget all the troubles that so recently plagued Kelly. It’s possible to believe she’ll be back on top of the music world soon.
American Idol’s first winner quickly became a pop princess and viable hit maker. Her first album, Thankful, debuted at number one on the Billboard chart. Her next project, the Grammy-winning album Breakaway, showed that Clarkson could offer some edge with her music, as well. In 2006, it looked like Kelly Clarkson’s success was unstoppable.
But while working on her third album My December, Clarkson suffered a public split with her management company and had reported troubles with her label. She canceled a summer tour and suffered a few negative headlines, but Clarkson started to pull through. The album became a success, and now Kelly’s all set to release more scintillating singles for her listeners.
Go ahead and treat your ears to the not-so-sucky preview, but you’ll have to wait until March before the rest of Clarkson’s album becomes available.

A Triple Dose of Prince in 2009
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Upcoming Releases, Pop, R&B / Soul,
If singing “1999” seems a bit too nostalgic for 2009, you will soon have a larger Prince catalogue to choose from.
In a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times, the 50-year-old singer announced that was preparing to release three new albums over the current year. MPLSOUND, which has been described as “electro-flavored,” features Q-Tip on one of the tracks. “Guitar-driven” Lotus Flower includes “Dreamer,” a cover of “Crimson & Clover.” Then there’s Elixir, a collaboration with his latest protege, Bria Valente.
Since he has no plans to work through a record label, Prince said is currently in talks with a major retailer to distribute the discs. Fans would also be able to purchase the music in digital form through the artist’s web site.

Sanjaya Malakar is Dancing to the Music in His Head
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Upcoming Releases, Pop, Amazon MP3 Store,
Believe it or not, it’s now officially been two years since Sanjaya Malakar divided audiences with his performances on American Idol. Unfortunately for Sanjaya, his vocal stylings will probably be forgotten long before his faux-hawk…or will they?
Later this month, Malakar will take advantage of America’s renewed interest in the reality show (Idol returns to the airwaves on January 13) and release a handful of new tracks. The EP, titled Dancing to the Music in My Head, will offer 5 new songs ranging in titles from A Quintessential Lullaby to A Guy Like Me.
Is Sanjaya still worth a whole $4.95, or is he so 2007? You can preview the tracks here and decide for yourself.
